Respectful

This is a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements. Being respectful means giving others the respect that they want to be given to themselves.

Remember the saying “Respect begets respect”? Yes. As a leader, you should always be conscious of the way you treat others because their attitude towards you would be reflective of that. People feel respected when they’ve been heard and understood. Being genuinely interested in and open to others strengthens your relationship and builds trust. You don’t need to agree with or like the other person’s viewpoint.

The Center for Creative Leadership sums this well: “At its core, respect is a continuous process of paying attention to people” (https://www.ccl.org/articles/leading-effectively-articles/the-power-of-respect/)
